Police: Teens found with drugs threatened store employee with knife, stole lighter

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas Two teens face several criminal charges after a theft at a dollar store led police to find them with drugs, police said.

Around 1 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the Family Dollar at 1820 Alabama St.

Police said Jose Angel Pena, 18, and a 14-year-old boy entered the store that day. The boy triggered the anti-theft alarm and was detained by employees.

At that point, Pena threatened the employees with a knife and the two left the store in a red 2000 Grand Am.

Police found the car nearby and arrested them and recovered a lighter taken from the store. Marijuana was also found in the vehicle and in the teen's possession, police said.

Pena was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the county jail with bail totaling $15,500.

The boy was turned over to the juvenile probation department on charges of aggravated robbery and possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces.
