Local authorities increasing holiday DWI enforcement

EL PASO, Texas Authorities are stepping up their patrols this holiday season in an effort to thwart drunken driving.

From Monday through Saturday, the El Paso Police Department will have an increase in officers patrolling the city for drunken drivers. The department's DWI Task Force along with each regional command centers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers.

Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will also have additional units until New Year's Eve.

Officials said an additional 20 deputies will be patrolling county streets in high-risk locations to curb drunken driving.

Free cab rides are available for those who believe they've had too much to drink. The free rides are offered by Sun City Cab Co. and are available until Jan. 2 by calling 915-544-2211.
