EL PASO, Texas - Two people were transported to local hospitals after a collision in the lower valley.
The Special Traffic Investigations unit was called to the scene at 2:25 a.m. on Saturday, and their investigation revealed that a 2000 Isuzu NPR utility truck was going westbound on North Loop and ran a red light.
The Isuzu then struck a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 43-year old Pilar Garcia as it was turning from Hunter onto North Loop. The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu sustained serious internal injuries and is in critical condition. The passenger, Alexander Galarza, 17, also received injuries from the crash.
The driver of the utility truck fled the scene on foot after the accident and was later tracked down by a police canine at a nearby home where the driver was hiding.
The driver of the 2000 Isuzu NPR utility truck is said to be an adult male and is currently pending charges. He was treated for minor injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this accident.
