By: Joshua Zuber and Ruben Veloz
EL PASO, Texas Six years after pleading guilty to a public corruption charge, Elizabeth "Betti" Flores finally learned her punishment.
The former county commissioner was sentenced to five years probation and a $25,000 fine after admitting that she accepted several bribes in exchange for votes involving several contracts.
"Thank you very much for one who have supported me and ones who didn't. I don't blame them. I've made bad mistakes, and I'm very sorry for them," Flores said.
Flores was one of the most high profile arrests made by the FBI during its public corruption investigation.
One of the men also involved in the investigation was former El Paso ISD computer technician and district clerk, Fernando Parra.
He was sentenced time served and one year of unsupervised release.
"Mr. Parra is fully remorsed about what he did. He has taken great steps in the help in the recovery in their trust in the community," Parra's attorney, Gal Pissetzky, said.
Parra also admitted to bribing county leaders, and pleaded guilty to one count of taking and receiving child porn back in July 2008.
If the judge hadn't granted Flores probation, she could have spent a maximum of nearly four years in prison.
