Police: Speeder pulled over was intoxicated

EL PASO, Texas - A driver speeding on Interstate 10 was found to be intoxicated, according to police it was the third time she was driving under the influence. 

It happened around 2 a.m. Thursday on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 when a police officer assigned to the department's DWI Task Force witnessed her speed by.

Sarah Jane Vanpelt, 29, was driving at 75 mph in a 60 mph zone when she was pulled over, according to police.

The police officer who pulled over Vanpelt said he noticed she was intoxicated.

Later on police discovered Vanpelt has two prior DWI convictions.

She was booked into jail with a $5,000 bond.

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced it will increase DWI patrols begining Dec. 13 Jan. 2. DPS troopers will focus DWI patrols in high-risk locations at times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.
