Nationwide races raise thousands for local charities
By: Stacey Welsh
EL PASO, Texas -- Charitable organizations tell KFOX14 races that happen across the country, like the Color Run and Run or Dye, raise thousands of dollars that will stay in El Paso.
Proceeds from Run or Dye benefit the Boys and Girls Club, Club and marketing coordinator Rebecca Romero said the local chapter will see more than $8,000.
"That helps us make and support more matches of volunteer mentors to the children on our waiting list. It really just means the world to these kids," Romero said.
She also said the November Run or Dye event was the first time the Boys and Girls Club had partnered with that organization.
A representative for El Paso's American Cancer Society chapter said the Color Run in September raised more than $10,000 locally.
"What kind of event would really bring the community together, and promote health and happiness? That's exactly what the Color Run does," American Cancer Society volunteer John Mack said.
Mack also said the money will assist patients with transportation to receive treatment and cancer research, including prostate cancer research happening in El Paso.
Mack said the American Cancer Society is currently planning for the Color Run to return to El Paso in 2014.
