Sun City plays big for Silver Screen, crews shoot "Dumb and Dumber To" downtown

EL PASO, Texas-- El Paso plays a role in another highly anticipated feature film due out next year.
It's a sequel to the cult classic "Dumb and Dumber" appropriately titled 'Dumb and Dumber To.'
The film comes out 20 years after the original.
Thursday, crews were in downtown El Paso shooting a scene outside of the El Paso Convention Center.
There were a few onlookers lining the Santa Fe Street, just to catch a glimpse of the filming.
While main actors Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels were not present, their body doubles were there, cruising down the street in what appeared to be in a Zamboni.
Crews also filmed earlier in the day at Hueco Tanks state park, and there will be several other shots of the Borderland.
The filming brought fans of the original out to check out the activity.
"We finish each other's quotes with Dumb and Dumber' quotes, so once I found out about this, I was like, I'm here, for sure. I'm just excited to see this and see how it goes," said James Wallenfelsz, who got some pictures on his phone to share with his friends.
This, of course, isn't the first movie to be shot in the Borderland.
El Paso recently had a cameo in the movie "The Counselor," as well as notable films like "Glory Road" and "Courage under Fire."
El Paso film commissioner Susie Gains said that's partially because El Paso has a great reputation in Hollywood, plus, it has great weather for shoots.
"They (filmmakers) all go away with a good feeling about El Paso. They get things done. They can't believe the open arms they receive from the public, from everyone, from government all the way down," said Gains.
Even though the stars weren't in town to shoot the movie, people said they're still excited to see El Paso on the big screen.
In October, KFOX TV reported that several scenes shot in Marietta Georgia were shot to resemble El Paso.
The Marietta Daily Journal reported that portions of the Marietta Square, in Georgia, were decorated to look like the Sun City for the new film "Dumb and Dumber To."
Local Marietta businesses such as Marietta Pizza Company and Jeweler on the Square were reimagined to blend in with the El Paso-themed set.
With several scenes shot in El Paso or with El Paso in mind, it's believed the city will have a good-sized presence on the silver screen.
