Three Las Cruces men allegedly stole clothes from El Paso mall

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas Three Las Cruces men were arrested after they allegedly stole clothes from a department store inside an east El Paso mall.

Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, police said they were called to the Dillard's department store inside Cielo Vista Mall and were told that a robbery took place.

Police learned that three men were stopped by the store's loss prevention employees, but they managed to run out and shattered a glass door before reaching their car, police said.

Officers in plain clothing were able to get a description of the vehicle and spotted the black 2007 Toyota Corolla and followed it while waiting for marked patrol units.

The car was stopped at Gateway West Boulevard at Hawkins Boulevard, and the three suspects were arrested without incident, police said.

The suspects were identified as Gilbert Caldwell, 17; Antonio Deshaun King, 19; and Ray Collins, 19, -- all from Las Cruces.

They were charged with theft more than $500 and under $1,500 as well as criminal mischief. They were booked into the El Paso County Jail.
