El Paso shoppers head to mall early for black Friday

By: Ruben Veloz

EL PASO, Texas--If you haven't been able to make it out for those Black Friday deals, there's still time.

Many stores will be open late Friday despite the facts that some opened early on Thanksgiving night.

Rachel Miranda, who was visiting family from Phoenix with her young daughter, shopped for so long that she lost track of time.

"I got here at 5:30 p.m. and the store was supposed to open at 7 p.m. not 8 p.m., so I had an extra hour of waiting in line." The waiting was difficult for her daughter. "I'll never do this to her again. Next time I'm coming by myself."

Like most big brand stores, this year the mall opened four hours earlier.

Mall managers tell KFOX14 it's in response to shoppers' needs.

"We're finding that during the holidays, shoppers schedules, our family schedules are very hectic and it gives them a chance to get out early get great bargains," said Cielo Vista mall manager Shawna Thomson.

Some stores had up to 50 percent off on most of their items.

Shoppers told KFOX14 they didn't seem to mind that workers had to go to work early for Black Friday.

"They chose the work because they were hiring for holidays. If they chose to work, that's kind of their business," said East El Pasoan Cecilia Bretado.

Despite the long hours waiting in line, many say the pain was worth the price.

"I'm sad. I want to go to Macy's but I've been here so long, I'm afraid I'll start crying if I stay any longer," Miranda said.

Cielo Vista mall stays open until 10 pm.

If you are shopping, don't forget to keep safety in mind.

There is mall security, but you want to make sure your belongings are secure.
