Hardware failure prompts banking issues at FirstLight FCU
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas A hardware failure at FirstLight Federal Credit Union created headaches for some customers trying to access online banking and make deposits.
Michael Day, vice president of marketing, said a third-party vendor's computer system failed, creating bank transfer and access problems. He said about 25-30,000 members were affected when the glitch began Monday.
"Obviously if you came into a branch to make a deposit and were told, 'I'm sorry, here's a paper receipt for your deposit and oh-by-the-way these funds won't be accessible until our system comes back up,' that can create anxiety," Day said.
Day said repairs were made around noon Tuesday to the credit unions drives and software. Tests were ongoing throughout the afternoon.
On Monday, officials said customers were limited to accessing $100 from their account at branches and $200 of the prior day's balance from ATM withdrawals.
Day said the credit union will work with members on any late fees incurred as a result of the glitch.
"If, for example, a person had a bill pay that was supposed to go out and that vendor charges them a late fee because the payment did not arrive Monday, we will work with the individual and adjust and credit their account to take care of those kiond of fees."
Officials ask that anyone who has individual issues with their account to call 915-562-1172 in El Paso and 575-526-4401 in Las Cruces.
