El Paso families will not be able to Adopt-A-Soldier for Thanksgiving

FORT BLISS - Soldiers will not have the chance to celebrate Thanksgiving with El Paso families.
The tradition of inviting a soldier to your home for the holiday through the Adopt-A-Soldier program is suspended this year, said Fort Bliss spokeswoman Jean Offutt.
The program aims at pairing up El Paso families with a soldier who can't make it home for Thanksgiving or to military families who have a loved one deployed overseas.
Offutt told KFOX14 that officials didn't see an interest from soldiers wanting to go out in the community for Thanksgiving.
With the transfer of some Fort Bliss soldiers to Fort Sill, the number of soldiers at Fort Bliss has declined, said Offutt.
Also, some soldiers are deployed, married or already have plans to celebrate with member of their own company, said Offutt.
The program is not canceled, which means it could start up again if the factors change, said Offutt.
