By: Ruben Veloz, Daily News
EL PASO, Texas--If you're looking to buy a home in Texas you might have a difficult time.
A recent report says the state of Texas is going through a housing shortage which is driving prices up.
The daily news reports more people are moving to Texas to find jobs.
As a result new home builders aren't able to keep up with the demand, causing bigger cities like Houston and Dallas to go through a housing shortage.
In some cases buyers are even offering cash to buy homes, sometimes more than the asking price.
However, on local real estate agent tell KFOX14 El Pasoans don't have to worry.
"There are so many things going on in El Paso that makes El Paso kind of unique than other markets around the nation" said Jennifer Woo.,
Woo works for Sand Messer and Associates in El Paso, she tells KFOX14 there are plenty of homes available.
The average home in El Paso is selling within three months and in some cases even faster.
"I had a house I put on the east side and it sold in a day," said Woo.
Woo said El Paso's unique job growth and affordable housing has made the borderland an economic hot spot.
She said as long as Fort Bliss is in town, there shouldn't be a shortage.
"The builders are continuing to build," said Woo. "El Paso is a growing market and I really think that on day we're going to make a mark where people come, and they don't ask us what is there to do here, or is it safe."
Woo tells KFOX14 most of the home sales are happening on the east side where housing is more affordable.
Woo says El Paso's unique job growth and affordable housing has made the area an economic hot spot.
She says as long as there are jobs and El Paso continues to grow with Fort Bliss, there shouldn't be a housing shortage.
"We have the children's hospital, the new medical school. We have the military and if you think about it we have the government jobs like the border patrol, and homeland security," said Woo.
