49ers fan gifts team Purple Heart, gets honored at home game

EL PASO, Texas An El Paso veteran's Purple Heart was returned to him at an NFL game Sunday.

National Guard Sgt. Alfredo Gutierrez was honored Sunday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco before the NFL game between the 49ers and Carolina Panthers.

Gutierrez sent in his Purple Heart along with a letter to the team after their NFC Championship Game loss to the New York Giants in 2012.

In the letter, Gutierrez talks about an injury he sustained in 2009 that led to first-degree burns and traumatic brain injury.

He spoke of the team's progress and how they have come a long way. In the letter, he gave the team his Purple Heart " because your team has played with heart, and with that, nobody can stop your team now."
