By: Elena Arteaga

SOCORRO, Texas -- A 2-year-old boy was said to be in critical condition late Wednesday night, after a car accident in Socorro.

The accident was first reported at 10:10 P.M. at the intersection of Alameda and Horizon.

Chief Mario Murillo, with the Socorro Volunteer Fire Department, told KFOX14 that a car hit the passenger-side of another car.

Emergency personnel rushed a 2-year-old passenger to University Medical Center, where the child was said to be listed in critical condition. A sergeant with the Socorro Police Department said the child's injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The sergeant stated that speed was a contributing factor in this accident. Alcohol was not thought to have played a role.

Charges could be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
