Affidavit: Mother-in-law, wife tried to disarm man before deadly shooting
EL PASO, Texas Police documents detailed the killing of a man's mother-in-law that started off as an argument with his wife.
El Paso police arrested 25-year-old Armando Munoz in connection with the early-morning slaying in northeast El Paso Saturday.
Munoz is accused of shooting and killing his 47-year-old mother-in-law, Bobbi Hackney, during a family argument around 1:15 on Sirius Avenue, near the intersection of U.S. 54 and Hercules Avenue, police said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Munoz and his wife were in an argument when he ran to his bedroom to get a Glock 22 pistol.
As he was loading it, Hackney and Munoz's wife tried to wrestle the weapon out of his hands, according to the affidavit.
The two were unable to disarm Munoz, who then shot his mother-in-law in the midsection, according to the affidavit.
After police were called to the house, Hackney was taken to University Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.
Munoz reportedly ran away from the scene before police arrived, and he was later found a short distance from the house.
Munoz was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of murder and assault family violence. His bond totals more than $1,000,000.
People living near the scene told KFOX14 they do not know much about who lives in the house where the shooting happened, but believe multiple families live there.
They also said the neighborhood is otherwise quiet.
Police state this is the ninth homicide this year compared to 22 this same time last year.
