Costume drive aims to dress up less fortunate children

EL PASO, Texas A local girl is hoping to help children in the area dress up and celebrate Halloween through a costume drive.

Costume BOOtique aims to solicit a costume drive for 35 children living at the Salvation Army shelter.

Olivia Mercado is a 10-year-old that is helping push the costume drive.

"Every kid should be able to be a kid and dressing up for Halloween is one of the fun things that you should be able to do," Mercado said.

Resource Development Director Rose Lucero said the drive is a great way for parents to involve their children into helping those that are less fortunate.

"I've had many individuals call and ask 'How can I get my child to participate in giving back?' This is one way for parents to get children involved at a level that the children can understand," Lucero said.

Those interested in helping with the costume drive can pick up tags at the Salvation Army located at 4300 East Paisano Drive.
