Officials: Three people safely escape northeast house fire
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas Three people were able to safely evacuate their northeast El Paso home after it caught fire Tuesday afternoon.
Officials said that around 3:43 p.m., a home on the 5000 block of Prince Edward Ave. caught fire.
Fire crews saw smoke coming from the front and left side of the house, officials said, and they were able to get the fire under control in less than 30 minutes.
Officials said work was being done to pipes in the back of the home with a torch when the wood caught fire. The fire then spread to the attic space in between two roofs, as one roof was being built on top of another.
Fire crews contained the fire to two rooms in the back of the home. No injuries were reported, officials said.
About $25,000 worth of damage was caused, and the house sustained light smoke damage throughout, officials said.
About 12 units and 30 firefighters responded to the fire.
