Police: Man who initially fled from officer returned, charged with drunken driving

By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas A man who was pulled over by an officer, fled the scene and later returned to the officer was found to be driving drunk, police said.

Around 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, an officer pulled over Alexander Demetrius Smith, who was driving a 2011 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle in the 3000 block of Outrigger Street.

Police said Smith initially stopped, but then fled from the officer.

Less than 10 minutes later, the same officer was investigating a hit-and-run collision in the 1900 block of George Dieter Drive when Smith approached the officer in his motorcycle in order to speak with him, police said.

The officer found Smith to be intoxicated and arrested him.

Smith was wanted for evading arrest or detention, and a warrant for his arrest was issued in September.

Along with the warrant, Smith was charged with driving under the influence as well as evading arrest.
