EL PASO, Texas A 50-year-old woman suffered second-degree burns following a house fire that was started by two children playing with matches, officials said.
Officials said firefighters responded to fire at a home on the 2900 block of Piedras Street.
Around 8 a.m., firefighters saw smoke come from the bedroom toward the back of the home. About eight people were inside the home when the fire started, and a woman, 50, had second-degree burns to her palms.
Officials said the woman was checking to see what was on fire and where the smoke was coming from. She was taken to University Medical Center for treatment and was later released from the hospital.
About 22 firefighters placed the fire under control in less than 10 minutes, officials said.
According to a fire investigator, the fire started when two small children were playing with matches on top of a bed.
The damage was estimated at $2,500.
