Canutillo ISD board president arrested after alleged drunken crash
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas The Canutillo ISD board president was arrested last week for allegedly driving drunk.
According to an arrest affidavit acquired from the El Paso Times, Armando Rodriguez crashed into a telephone pole Thursday at the 6800 block of Straham Rd. with his white Hummer H3.
In a statement sent to KFOX14, Rodriguez said he "did the right and responsible thing to do by calling 911 after the accident."
When a deputy responded to the scene, Rodriguez was seen with blood on his nose, pants and was waking with a limp.
According to the affidavit, Rodriguez told the deputy that he fell asleep while driving home from The Network, a restaurant bar in downtown El Paso.
Rodriguez told the deputy he had one glass of wine and was administered a field sobriety test.
Rodriguez was taken to the Vinton substation where he was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .146, which is more than the legal limit in Texas of .08.
The following is a statement Rodriguez sent to KFOX14 regarding the arrest:
"It is unfortunate that my family and my community have to go through this ordeal with me. It is a personal matter and I will deal with it personally.
"I did the right and responsible thing to do by calling 911 after the accident.
"This incident should in no way reflect the positive work that the Canutillo school district and its Board of Trustees have accomplished on behalf of our children.
"I ask for understanding as my family and I deal with this very personal issue."
