New Anthony ISD superintendent in place as school year began
By: Jesse Martinez
ANTHONY, Texas The Anthony Independent School District has hired a new superintendent.
Steven Saldivar, 45, was the former superintendent for Big Spring ISD near Midland, Texas, for five years.
During his time at Big Spring, he helped pass a $60 million bond and built four new elementary schools as well as renovated the district's high schools.
Saldivar hit the ground running in Anthony the day that school started.
"It's been fast and furious, but it's been a good first week. I am the type that gets out, and being in a small district, we are all in one place, which affords me the change to walk around to all our locations and get to meet teachers, students and staff," he said.
Saldivar signed a three-year contract with a starting salary of $125,000. He replaced Ron Haugen, who announced his retirement in June.
