Times: New agreement to be signed by Mountain Star and city

EL PASO, Texas--After facing scrutiny for going over its proposed budget Mountain Star Sports Group has agreed to sign a new contract with the City of El Paso.
Our media partners The El Paso Times reports that the contract will mean Mountain Star will take care of any additional costs needed to finish building the triple-A baseball stadium.
"We have not asked for anything to change from our approved plans, and that's where we stand today," said Mountain Star Vice President Josh Hunt at a press conference earlier this week.
The senior vice president of Mountain Star sports group told the El Paso times that it is working to finalize the details of the proposal to make sure the quality and design of the stadium isn't jeopardized.
As KFOX14 reported, Mountain Star said it would need an additional $10 million to pay for ballpark.
Some El Pasoans seemed pleased with the agreement between Mountain Star and the city.
"It's not our taxes or anything," said Daniel Villasana, "so if they wanted to go over budget just do it but pay with their own money."
Without the written agreement, City Manager Joyce Wilson said in a letter obtained by the Times there was there no guarantee that Mountain Star Sports Group would pay for those amenities.
Therefore, the city needs the letter to make sure those extra costs will be paid by Mountain Star.
"If it's going to be an expensive stadium, I think it's going to be great and we are not paying for anything," said Villasana.
Without that additional $10million, city officials say certain amenities like the water feature, and restaurant and bar would have been taken out of the design plans.
Villasana said that wouldn't have been good for the quality of the stadium.
"They got to pay for their own things and they are doing it so there is no problem at all," said Villasana.
Wilson said if any changes were to be made, that could have also delayed the ballpark's completion.
