EL PASO, Texas
An El Paso police officer was hit by a car while responding to a domestic violence call in the Lower Valley.
Officers responded to a domestic violence call outside of a home on the 800 block of Montera just after midnight last night.
Officers learned a man involved in the incident had left in a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and later found the car on the 700 block of El Arco with the man still inside.
As the officers approached the car, the driver attempted to flee and, in the process, drove into one of the officers, police said.
The suspect, identified by police as 24-year-old Edgar Alfonso Rico, fled the scene and got onto I-10.
EPPD units started chasing him and as soon as they entered El Paso County the chase was taken over by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office and state troopers.
A sheriff's deputy put out a tire deflation device and successfully punctured the suspect's tires.
Rico was placed under arrest and handed over to the El Paso Police Department.
The officer, a five-year veteran with the force, suffered minor injuries.
