Ballpark construction: Work begins on visitor's side
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas Construction crews working on the city's new Triple-A baseball stadium are currently building the visitor's side of the ballpark.
The field-level area underneath the concourse along the first-base line will include the visiting team's locker room, equipment storage and mascot dressing room, city officials said.
Work on the field and concourse levels will allow for work to begin on the club level, which will include suites, offices and scoreboard operations.
"Close to home plate, the structure will include four levels: field level, concourse level, press level, and suite level," said city engineer Alan Shubert, who is managing the construction project. "When work is completed, that part of the ballpark will rise more than 70 feet above the ground -- more than three times higher than what you see right now."
The ballpark is expected to be completed in time for the 2014 baseball season. For more information on the construction project, visit home.elpasotexas.gov/ballpark.
