iPhone 5C, 5S release in El Paso goes smoothly

By: Jamel Valencia
EL PASO, Texas - El Pasoans lined up as early as 2 a.m. Friday to get their hands on Apple's latest iPhone, the 5S and the lower-priced 5C.

Austin Ramos wasn't the first in our area to get it, but he did stand in line outside the AT&T store on George Dieter Drive to purchase the phone.

Ramos, who is already an iPhone user, said he was excited with Apple's latest rollout.

"They really deliver... Apple never lies about its products. They really deliver. When they say it's going to be new and innovative, it is."

This is the first time Apple released two of its products at the same time. The 5C is the lower-cost phone and comes in a variety of colors blue, green, yellow, pink and white. The 5S comes in gray, silver and gold, and offers a faster processor, fingerprint sensor and upgrades to its camera.

Ramos, who was hoping to get the 5S in gold, had to settle for the silver.

He said he was told by an AT&T representative that the gold was not available at any store in El Paso.

The launch of the phone overall went well in El Paso, but that wasn't the case for other parts of the U.S.

In Pasadena, Calif., two men were arrested for fighting outside an Apple store when a man's plan to hire a homeless man to wait in line backfired on him.
