Santa Teresa Country Club remains unsold after auction
SUNLAND PARK, N.M. The state of New Mexico failed to auction off the Santa Teresa Country Club again.
Three large country club properties went unsold this morning to recoup hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes.
This is the second time in less than a year that the properties, including the gold course, were not sold at auction.
"It's an issue because the bids are so high for cash to start with, and on top of that there's huge leans on the property," Keith Autry of Las Cruces. "So based on the current values, I don't think anybody will come up with that kind of cash."
Six other properties from various parts of the county were sold at auction to collect back taxes.
State officials are planning a second auction Oct. 17 for the Santa Teresa County Club properties that didn't sell Monday.
