Convicted sex offender to face child porn charges

By: Ruben Veloz, Texas Attorney General

EL PASO, Texas--A convicted sex offender is set to appear in federal court Monday after being locked up in El Paso County jail for nearly three years.

El Paso police say Miguel Eduardo Gomez is accused of possessing more than 2,000 pictures of child pornography on his computer.

Police said the 37-year-old was sharing those pictures with another man in New York.

According to investigators, Gomez even taught him how to avoid getting caught by police.

Gomez faces federal child pornography charges after investigators raided his raided his home back in December 8, 2010.

According to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott's office, a search of Gomez's home found he had 1,500 images of child porn stored on his computer.

Investigators said some of those images included videos of boys being sexually assaulted.

Investigators say Gomez and his accomplice, Anthony William Brooks, "had an interest in sexually assaulting children, particular young boys."

Authorities said the two gave each other advice on how to avoid getting caught by their probation officers--and accuse Gomez of coaching Brooks on how to cheat a polygraph test, and avoid being detected online.

They were both booked and arrested on federal child pornography charges.

Gomez is scheduled to appear at the Albert Armendariz Sr. Federal Courthouse 9 a.m.

Records show Gomez was a registered sex offender, and was convicted of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old Virginia boy back in 1994.

Because of his history, the Texas attorney general's office says he could face a minimum of 15 years in prison.
