Santa Teresa Country Club up for auction once again
By: Ruben Veloz
Santa Teresa, NM--For months people living at the Santa Teresa Country Club in southern New Mexico have been tired of the way their neighborhood has looked.
"It looks like a grass pasture," said Santa Teresa resident Toni Triviz about the area's golf course.
Neighbors say it's the result of the country club's owner not paying thousands of dollars in property taxes.
The country club's two golf courses are nothing but brown patches of dead grass, and people have complained about not getting utility services they've been paying for.
Neighbors say they've been dealing with the problem for at least three years.
Worried about their property values decreasing, people living in this community are hoping that maybe this time a bidder comes through, and helps get the once-thriving country club up and running.
"We've lived here six years now and we kind of noticed the property going down more and more, and homes up for sale," said Richard Deeds,
As KFOX14 reported, that owner, Greg Collins, owes about $672,000 in property taxes.
The state has threatened to shut down the country club after Collins failed to pay the money owed.
According to the Dona Ana County website, the county will host a land auction for the property along with more than one hundred other properties whose owners owe back taxes.
This is the second time the county will try to auction off the country club.
In October of 2013, no one stepped forward to purchase the land.
Minimum bids for the country club is at $321,000.
The northern golf course will go for at least $235,900, and the southern course at $114,200.
The auction starts at 10 a.m. at the Dona Ana County Government Center at, 845 N. Motel Blvd, in Las Cruces, NM.
Bidders have to sign up before the auction.
Auctioned property must be paid for on the spot by either personal or business check, a cashier's check, money order, or certified check.
If no bidder comes through again, the property will be put up for a third auction on October 17th.
The county says people who have un-paid property taxes can still pay before the start of the auction.
