EL PASO, Texas Thousands of job seekers headed to downtown El Paso Tuesday with resumes in hand to take part in the annual job fair.
This year's Job Fair and Education Expo, called Get Hired 2013, brought in nearly 6,400 job seekers to the Civic Center.
More than 200 employers participated and brought more than 4,000 jobs to the table. Companies both large and small and from almost every industry set up at the Civic Center looking for prospective employees.
"I've gone to one previously and it wasn't that great; it was really small. It was crowded and every single stand said to apply online, but here, you can actually fill out applications and turn them in," said Erika Rodriguez.
Officials said 392 applicants were hired on the spot, and participating employers are expected to hire close to 1,500 attendees in the next few weeks.
The director of the Texas Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande said more than 1,200 people at last year's job fair found employment, and they hope to surpass that number this year.
Lorenzo Reyes, chief executive officer of Workforce Solutions Upper Rio Grande, said Tuesday's job fair was the largest and most successful one to date.
