Mayor asks El Pasoans to take pledge to curb texting while driving

By: Jamel Valencia
EL PASO, Texas - A campaign kicked off Thursday in hopes of getting El Pasoans to stop texting while driving.

Mayor Oscar Leeser admitted that he like a lot of other people are guilty of texting while driving during an event held to promote "It Can Wait El Paso."

The campaign encourages the community to take the pledge not to text while driving. Leeser, who took the pledge, believes doing so will set an example.

"I think everybody around here holding a cellphone is guilty. Moving forward we need to be an example," said Leeser at the event.

Leeser and the city of El Paso partnered with AT&T to challenge the public to never text while driving.

The pledge can be taken by texting "icwelpaso" to 464329 or signing up at www.itcanwait.com.
