EL PASO, Texas-- El Paso police say a 5-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after he was hit by a motorcycle in far east El Paso.
The rider of that motorcycle fled the scene but was later found, said El Paso Police spokesman Mike Baranyay.
The accident happened around 10:15 p.m. Sunday near Tierra Venado Drive and Tierra Lirio Place east of Chester Jordan Elementary.
Special traffic investigators were out at the scene Monday morning.
Police said the boy was hit by the motorcyclist after crossing the street late Sunday night.
"There was an adult with the child as the child was crossing the street," said Baranyay, "as far as how close in proximity to the child the adult was, that I don't know."
The rider kept on going but then later called police.
"When he got to his house he did report that he had struck something. He wasn't sure what it was at the time but again officers did go out to his house and met with him and have him identified," said Baranyay.
The boy was taken to University Medical Center.
Police said the boy was not facing life-threatening injuries and suffered a broken collarbone.
The rider hasn't been arrested but police are still investigating and the motorcyclist could face charges, Baranyay said.
