DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. A 32-year-old woman is accused of attacking and stabbing her boyfriend while he was driving with her and her children in the vehicle, deputies said.
Officials with the Dona Ana County sheriff's office said they responded to a domestic disturbance call around 4:30 p.m. Monday in the 2200 block of Cedar Grove Street in Hatch.
Deputies say Berenice Gallegos-Martinez hit her 23-year-old boyfriend with a boot in the head and neck during an argument. She also tried to hit him with a tire iron, but the victim was able to disarm her, deputies said.
The victim was stabbed by Gallegos-Martinez in the chest and leg with a screwdriver, and she tried to strangle him with a piece of molding from the car's rear door, deputies said.
At one point, the vehicle went off the road, but the victim was able to regain control, deputies said.
Gallegos-Martinez's 12- and 13-year-old daughters and 10-year-old son made it home safely and called 911.
Deputies said the victim refused medical treatment.
Gallegos-Martinez was charged with two counts of aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon, and one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a household member, intentional child abuse and negligent child abuse.
She was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bail set at $10,000.
