Update: Suspect accused of killing woman, injuring man shot to death by police
By: Gina Benitez
EL PASO, Texas -- A woman was stabbed to death in the Lower Valley early Friday morning and the man police believe is responsible for her murder was shot to death by police.
Police said they were first dispatched to the 7200 block of Stiles Drive, where they met with a 41-year-old man with stab wounds in his upper torso around 2:24 a.m. Monday.
Police were directed to the 7200 block of Dale Road where the stabbing happened. At the residence, officers found a 35-year-old woman dead from stab wounds.
The investigation revealed that the 38-year-old suspect confronted the victims in the woman's apartment, and both of the victims were stabbed several times in the upper torso.
The male victim was able to flee the area and call for help, according to Daryl Petry, a spokesperson for the police department. He was taken to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Hours later, at around 7 a.m., police went to the suspect's residence on the 7800 block of Maverick Avenue.
"A Taser was attempted but was unsuccessful. He (the suspect) approached the officers threatening them with the knives and one officer discharged his duty handgun and the male subject died at the scene," said Sgt. Chris Mears, spokesman for police.
"I woke up and I heard two gunshots, simultaneously, " said Kris Christian, a neighbor across the street.
The officer who shot the man was a 19-year veteran with the department. The department's Crimes Against Persons Unit, Shooting Review Team and the Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting as with all officer-involved shootings, police said.
"I'm just more hurting for the daughters that he left behind. But at least I know that we are safe now. It's just a little shocking to me," Christian said.
The names of the suspect and victims won't be released until families have been notified.
Neighbors tell KFOX14 the suspect leaves three little girls behind.
