Storms cause trees to topple onto homes, cars in Upper Valley
By: Gina Benitez
EL PASO, Texas -- The Upper Valley was hit hard during Wednesday evening's storms.
Dozens of trees can be seen uprooted throughout the neighborhood surrounding the El Paso Country Club.
Just across the street, a tree took down part of a rock wall and cracked the foundation of a driveway.
A couple of blocks down, a car was crushed by another downed tree.
But those homes weren't the only ones hit.
People said they counted around 50 downed trees around the golf course at the El Paso Country Club.
Residents told KFOX14 it was a storm unlike anything they'd ever seen.
"There were trees on the street, branches, people couldn't get in their driveways. I don't know how many trees are down. I know it's going to be terrible," said Carol Johnson.
Johnson said the rain was actually falling sideways, and a tree toppled onto her roof Wednesday night.
A local landscaper said pruning trees is important to prevent any extensive damage.
"In the Valley here, things grow real fast so you have to constantly prune to keep things away from the houses. So we're going to work on that -- try to keep things that might fall over away from the house," said Hane Steadman, owner of Landscapes West.
Johnson said there's some slight damage to the outside of her home but she feels fortunate because it could have been much worse.
