EL PASO, Texas -- Three people were rushed to University Medical Center, including a young child, after a two-vehicle crash in Northeast El Paso.

El Paso police, firefighters and paramedics were called out to the intersection of Hercules and Railroad in Northeast El Paso at 11:45 P.M. Thursday, after a reddish-colored Chevy Silverado and a silver-colored SUV crashed.

Investigators believe the driver of the pickup truck was going south on Railroad, when he crashed into the SUV in the intersection. The force of the crash was so hard, that it caused the SUV to rollover several times, before slamming into a traffic pole, causing one of the lughts to fall onto the ground.

At least one person became trapped after the crash, but KFOX14 is told that the "jaws of life" were not used in this accident. But police on the scene said that the 11-month-old child suffered numerous fractures. At least one person was partially ejected, but it was not confirmed who that victim was.

As of 2:30 A.M., the child was listed in critical condition.

The police department's Special Traffic Investigation's unit was called out to the accident. The area was closed down Railroad from Hercules to Diana for most of the morning as the special traffic investigations unit collected evidence from the scene.

KFOX14 witnessed police take one man into custody shortly after our arrival at around midnight for further questioning.

Police said they will investigate whether that man was driving while under the influence, or if he ran a red light.
