Alleged Manhattan Heights predator escorted by police to jail
By: Jesse Martinez
EL PASO, Texas - The suspect in the Manhattan Heights sexual predator case faces six additional charges, and he was seen being escorted from the Central Regional Command Center back to the jail Thursday afternoon.
As KFOX14 previously reported, Arturo Valtierra-Payan was arrested July 2 in connection to a series of rapes and break-ins during May and June in the Manhattan Heights neighborhood.
According to the El Paso Times, he was charged with three counts of burglary of a habitat and three counts of sexual assault.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and they hope to have new information released Friday.
At the time of his arrest in July, he was charged with one count of suspicion of burglary of a habitation, and he was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a $300,000 bond.
In one assault case, a woman was watching TV in her living room when it sounded as though someone was trying to open the door, according to the arrest affidavit.
When the woman looked out of a window in her front door, she saw a man duck down, get up and kick open the door. The attacker wore a mask, and when she pulled it off, he stated, "I'm going to kill you," according to the document.
The man then began to attack her and raped her. He put a knife to her back, stole her jewelry, forced her into a bathroom and left, according to the affidavit.
Valtierra-Payan lives in the 2600 block of Savannah Avenue, which is in the same neighborhood as the alleged assaults.
