As the DTV conversion gets closer, many people will be buying new high-definition televisions, but what will you do with your old TV?

You might think you can just toss it in the trash, but the tube in the those televisions contain a few pounds of lead.

If it seeps into the soil, it could contaminate our drinking water. Together we can keep electronic waste from being an environmental hazard for our children.

Here are some tips and resources for you to use as you consider purchasing a new television.

You can have it removed when the new set is delivered.

Many manufacturers will take back their old equipment, so check with your manufacturer’s Web site.

The only recycling company in El Paso that accepts televisions is DR Recycling.

If it fits into a box with the dimensions of 8x15, 20x16 or 23x18, you can take it down to your localOffice Depot where you can purchase the boxes at a cost of $5, $10 and $20 respectively.
