The Radio and Television News Directors Association has once again honored KFOX News with two of America’s highest awards for journalism excellence. This year, KFOX has been honored with the Edward R. Murrow awards for outstanding coverage of Breaking News, and for best Documentary.

“We’re proud to know that we continue to provide KFOX viewers with some of the best news coverage in the country,” says News Director David Bennallack. “It’s an honor to once again be the only television station in El Paso and Las Cruces to be chosen for these prestigious awards.”

KFOX was honored for its Breaking News coverage of the November 18th manhunt for the killer of Tonya West, a woman gunned down at her West El Paso apartment complex. For 13 hours, as schools were locked down and residents were warned to be on the lookout for a killer, only KFOX provided continuing coverage of the manhunt, including special reports and special newscasts.

KFOX also was honored for its coverage of El Paso’s elephant controversy in “Juno and Savannah’s story.” This Documentary, produced and hosted by KFOX News at Nine Anchor Elizabeth O'Hara, investigated the health of the elephants and their habitat at the El Paso Zoo. It revealed the arguments of those who were pushing the El Paso City Council to move the elephants to a Tennessee sanctuary, as well as those who fought to keep the elephants in El Paso.

O’Hara was also an honoree in the Breaking News category, and has now received five Regional Murrow Awards and one National Murrow in her career. “It's an incredible honor to receive the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award,” says O’Hara. “Every serious journalist strives for it. I think it's a nod to the kind of journalism KFOX is known for and we feel very humbled to have the hard work of our staff recognized by our colleagues."

KFOX has been honored with nine regional and two national Murrow awards in the past six years. It is one of only four television stations in America to be honored in the past year with both the Murrow and the Emmy awards for Breaking News coverage.
