Elizabeth O'Hara
KFOX News At Nine Anchor/Reporter
Elizabeth is El Paso's most honored television journalist. Among her four-dozen journalism awards: a national Edward R. Murrow, an Emmy and seven Emmy nominations.
Liz has been honored for Investigative Reporting by the Texas and the New Mexico Associated Press, the Dallas Press Club, the Houston Press Club, the Southern New Mexico Press Club the Headliners Foundation of Texas, and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. She is also actively involved in encouraging young students to pursue a career in journalism.
When I first started in journalism, I wanted to be a writer. I didn't know then that television writers are called "Producers." Producing is where I started but two years later I found myself in front of the camera as a reporter. I then took my reporting skills to Anchorage, Alaska in 1998 where I covered a number of amazing stories including alleged abuses at the state's largest retirement facility, the crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 and of course, avalanches and earthquakes.
In 2000, a golden opportunity came my way to come back home and I started working at KFOX where I now anchor KFOX News at Nine. I'm very fortunate to cover news in my hometown, plus I get to see my family all the time which is especially important these days. In January 2004, my husband and I welcomed the birth of our first child, Lindsey Marie.
Being back home has given me a big sense of responsibility. The El Paso/Las Cruces area is growing tremendously and in the coming years will be a powerhouse along the border. It's up to us to provide you information that's important and updated so you and your family have the latest details on our community's top stories. I think that's a high standard that KFOX News brings you every day and night and I'm proud to be a part of the team.
