Noreen Jaramillo
After three years with our parent station KTVU FOX-2 in San Francisco, Noreen is now firmly entrenched with KFOX again as anchor of The KFOX Morning News with Israel Balderas. Noreen has always been a favorite of El Paso and Las Cruces residents, and has been honored with more awards than any other local television journalist. Tens of thousands of El Paso/Las Cruces residents now start their day with Noreen - every morning from 5am to 8am on KFOX-TV.
It can't get much better then this.... returning to El Paso to anchor The KFOX Morning News has been great. Viewers often ask me "isn't getting up so early hard"? The truth of the matter is, yes some days it is but it's so worth it and for so many reasons. I love working with my co-workers on what I believe is the best morning newscast in town. When it comes to overnight breaking news, severe weather and traffic updates, we know how it important it is to get you the information you need as soon as possible. In fact major flooding in August 2006 and several snow days in January 2007 proved to be the biggest weather events I have covered while working in El Paso. In my first year back in the city, I was on the anchor desk for more than 12 hours on several different occations. I'm proud that El Paso and Las Cruces residents now depend on the KFOX Morning News to get them critical information in trying times.
I must also admit there's another great benefit of getting up so early. It gives me much mor etime to be with my husband and our two wonderful kids.
I have a great career and great family... it's more then I dreamed of when growing up in a small farming community in central New Mexico. Now when I jog along the river or ditch banks it reminds me of Veguita, about 45 miles south of Albuquerque where my mom and dad owned and operated a diary farm. In fact among my fondest memories are riding in the back of my Dad's truck with my mom and brother's and sister's or walking with them along the ditch banks behind our home. Even when I go home to visit, it's still something we all love to do. The only difference now is... we take our children along.
After high school I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University and got my first job as a reporter not far away in Roswell, New Mexico and yes I did cover a few "alien sighting" stories. Not only was I a reporter but also the photographer and video editor for all of my stories. In our business we call that a "one man band" -- or "one woman band" in my case. It was a great experience that has helped me throughout my career.
After Roswell, I came to El Paso as a reporter for KVIA. Then three years later I was offered one the main anchoring positions at the "then" new station in town, KFOX-TV. That was 1997 and I had the privilege of helping to launch KFOX News at Nine.
In 2002 another great opportunity came my way and I accepted a reporting and fill in anchor position in one of the nation's largest television markets. My husband and I moved to northern California and I started working with KTVU in San Francisco. I covered everything from shark sightings at the local beaches to security concerns at the Golden Gate Bridge to nationally watched events such as same sex marriages and antiwar protests. Professionally I gained valuable experience. Personally it allowed me the opportunity to explore Northern California with my husband and son. Some of our favorite activities included camping along the scenic west coast, walking among the treasured Redwood and Sequoia tress and visiting Yosemite National Park. Our baby girl was also born while we were in California.
It was a great time and God willing... it just seems to be getting better.
