Elizabeth Alvarez
News Reporter / Anchor
After two years with The KFOX Morning News, Elizabeth has moved to primetime and is now reporting every weeknight for KFOX News at Nine.
For five years, Elizabeth has been reporting and anchoring news in West Texas and Southern New Mexico. Among her specialized training, Liz spent a week at the El Paso Fire Academy and is a Certified Fire Journalist.
Being a journalist isn't just a job. It's who I am 24 hours a day, seven days a week. My passion for news goes beyond researching, investigating, and crafting the news into a story. My love for journalism also has to do with the people I meet and the relationships I build. The responsibility I take on to bring you the latest information, and what you need to know about your community, is so rewarding.
I joined KFOX in December of 2003 after spending more than two years reporting and fill-in anchoring at El Paso's CBS affiliate station. Prior to coming to the Sun City, I spent a year in Roswell, New Mexico as a "one-man-band" -- anchoring, reporting, photographing, editing, etc. My first job in TV was at KCBS in Los Angeles. I worked on the assignment desk and was a field producer. But my exposure to the news biz began even before that. While in college, I was nationally selected two years in a row to anchor and report in a student newscast for the National Association of Hispanic Journalists' Convention in Miami and Seattle.
I'm originally from Orange County, California. I graduated from Cal State University, Long Beach (GO BEACH!) with a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish. Even though I grew up going to the beach practically every weekend, ironically, I now LOVE the desert weather and wouldn't trade it for anything.
I'm a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Radio and Television News Directors Association. When I'm not at work I enjoy golfing with my husband and salsa-dancing.
