Thousands lined up in front of the Orleans arena in Las Vegas last Sunday with hopes of becoming the next American Idol-among those in line 4 of the 10 "El Paso Idol" finalists. And at the end of the day, only 1 El Pasoan was left to audition before the executive producers.

Perla Cruz, our crowned "El Paso Idol" joined them, although crowds were not a concern for her since her audition was guaranteed.

Perla, along with the 4 of the other finalists, although each extremely talented, were not chosen to proceed to the second round of producers. And at the end of the day, only 1 El Pasoan was left to audition before the executive producers.

Jessica Silva, a 19-year old "El Paso Idol" finalist, gave performances that made the producers, like so many others in our area, notice her amazing vocal talent. And that talent won her an opportunity to sing before the infamous American Idol judges--Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Paula Abdul.

September 15th, Jessica auditioned before the panel. Paula, and even the most critical Simon Cowell, have invited her to come to Hollywood for her chance to be the next American Idol.

For many, the most ironic part of this adventure is Jessica herself. Although auditioning before what could be called the most known faces in television history, Jessica has never seen them. Jessica has been blind since birth.

Her story has weaved an incredible picture of how far determination and the kindness of strangers can take someone. A local business woman, Melissa Bamberg, the owner of "Hear on Earth" has never met Jessica yet sponsored her to go to Las Vegas after hearing her compete at the "El Paso Idol" contest.

And now, for Jessica, her journey, although already an amazing one, is far from over.

She will be flown to Hollywood in the next month or two and will once again be competing with 100's of other contestants, only this time the stakes are higher. The prize to be won...her dream to become the next American Idol.
