Story

Patricia Maese

Weekend Anchor/Reporter

Patricia is an Emmy-nominated news reporter who has been working in the El Paso television market since 1999. She was one of the first local reporters to go through training at the El Paso Fire Academy to earn her "Certified Fire Journalist" title. Patty is also a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and a graduate of UTEP.

I think most people are surprised when they find out I grew up in Juarez. In fact, the first language I spoke was Spanish, and not until I started first grade here in El Paso, did I learn to speak English. Now I think growing up on both sides of the border has made me truly bicultural, especially when it comes to covering stories and issues that are unique to our area here in the southwest.

I was 12 years old when my family moved to El Paso. My mom is a school teacher and I have one older brother, who was a bully when we were little, but now we're very, very close. I played tennis (my favorite sport) at Irvin High School. Unfortunately, I don't get to pick up a racket as much anymore, although I never miss a Grand Slam tournament. While in high school, I have to admit my favorite class was journalism, especially getting to write for the school newspaper. I graduated from UTEP with a B.A. in Communication and English.

My first taste in broadcasting was working overnights for a local radio station. From there I moved to television, working every position from assignment desk assistant, newscast producer, field reporter, and anchor.

Now I'm very proud to say I'm part of the KFOX News Team -- a station that is highly recognized for its integrity and solid journalism. I know KFOX's approach to news focuses on telling the story from a "real" person's point of view, and I hope to bring that to our viewers as well.

When I'm not at work, I'm usually running around with my son from soccer practice to whatever kid's movie is out at the time.
