Story

Daniel Novick

Weekend Anchor/News Reporter

BIO
I have been a proud member of the KFOX family since August of 2005.

I started with KFOX in probably the toughest position at the station, the reporter for KFOX Morning News. For a full year I came into work every night at 11 p.m. to cover any and all news that happened in the Borderland during the overnight hours. With 13 live shots every morning and plenty of breaking news to cover, I really was able to sink my teeth into the business.

In August of 2006, right after the floods, I was promoted and became a general assignment reporter for KFOX News at Nine. My favorite story I covered was in June of 2007, when I went to Cape Canaveral, Florida for the shuttle launch of El Paso astronaut Danny Olivas. Other highlights include covering every major candidate for the 2008 presidential campaign including a one-on-one interview with Sen. John McCain, and flying with the Army Golden Knights as they practiced for the Amigo Airsho.

In November of 2008, I was promoted once again to weekend anchor/reporter. I absolutely love being able to deliver all of the news of the day for everyone on the weekends, and still report three days during the week.

In my spare time I love to watch sports, whether it be the Texas Longhorns, Seattle Mariners or my new favorite UTEP Miners and El Paso Diablos. In my off time you can find me on the golf links, attending nearly any sporting event that is in town or heading out to the new hot restaurants with my wonderful wife Rebecca.

Q & A

What year did you start at KFOX?
2005

What was your first TV appearance?
My freshman year of college, Jay Leno took the famous sketch "Jaywalking" on a campus tour. They came to UT to talk about dating and relationships. To make a long story short, I asked a girl out on national TV (by the way, she said yes.)

What is your dream job?
Either a U.S. Senator or White House correspondent for a network.

Why did you become a journalist?
I love being out in the field, getting to meet people everyday that in any other job I wouldn't come in contact with. I learn about a new subject each time I come into work, and that subject usually is completely different from whatever I covered the day before. The people I meet, the stories I cover, being where the action is…that's why I'm a journalist.

When did you know you wanted to be In TV?
While visiting our sister-station KIRO-TV in Seattle for my birthday as a child, Miss America was being interviewed on set. After she was done, she came over and gave me a kiss on the cheek for my birthday. Ever since that day, I knew I wanted to be in TV.

University of Texas at Austin - Hook 'em!
