“14 dollars and a burger”…that’s what I paid a prostitute named "Hopeless" to tell me her story. And what a story it was. She had been working the streets of Killeen, Texas since she was a teen. She was now in her 40’s. It was the only work she had ever done, and while she wasn’t exactly proud of it, she was by no means ashamed. I will never forget Hopeless because she reminded me what I love best about journalism. Telling stories no one else is telling and speaking to people who would otherwise not have their story told.
After years away and many great experiences, I am very happy to be back in the city I was born and raised in. I am looking forward to reconnecting with family and friends and visiting the places I remember and making new memories along the way. I am a proud Hanks High School Knight, where I have wonderful memories of Mr. Ruben Barron’s Video-Tech classes. From there, I went on to earn a B.A in Broadcast Journalism from the best journalism school in the country, USC in Los Angeles. Go Trojans! Before I graduated, I was fortunate to spend a year studying abroad in Bilbao, Spain. I perfected my Spanish and began my love affair with red wine and afternoon siestas.
Most recently, I was the breaking news overnight reporter for the FOX affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I spent a year waking up at 2 in the morning and going to bed at 6pm. It was a tough schedule but there was never a dull moment. I am sure I made some lifelong friends there.
Before that, I worked at stations in California and Killeen, Texas. I was on post at Fort Hood, the day Major Nidal Hassan went on a shooting spree and killed 13 soldiers and wounded 29 others. It is the worst shooting ever to take place on an American military base. Besides round the clock coverage for my own station, I did interviews with the BBC in London and CBS Network.
My passion is investigative journalism and breaking news. I love the rush of getting to a scene and having no idea what’s about to happen. I believe that all my life travels and experiences have brought me to where I am today…eager to tell your stories!
