Stars And Kings Battle In Dallas

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars hope to complete a sweep of their three- game homestand tonight, when they welcome the Los Angeles Kings to American Airlines Center.

The Stars beat Colorado, 5-4, on Monday and then posted a 1-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. Jeff Halpern's tally at 4:11 of the third period was the only goal of Wednesday's game.

Niklas Hagman and Patrik Stefan picked up the only other points on the night for Dallas, which has won four of its last six games.

Rookie goaltender Mike Smith had an easy night, stopping just 17 shots to post his fourth win of the season and his second career shutout.

Stefan carried into the Predators zone on the game-winner, and dished off to Hagman on the left side. Hagman's shot from the left point totally missed the net, but the rebound caromed perfectly off the back boards right to Halpern, who quickly dumped the puck into the net.

The Stars improved to 7-2-0 as the host club this season. They will begin a three-game road trip Monday evening against the Detroit Red Wings.

Los Angeles was also in action Wednesday night, but was handed a loss in San Jose. Patrick Marleau notched a goal and added two assists to help the Sharks down the Kings, 6-3, at the HP Pavilion.

Los Angeles got their goals courtesy of Scott Thornton, Dustin Brown and Lubomir Visnovsky. The Kings were trying to win back-to-back games for just the second time this season and for the first time October 7-10.

LA goaltender Dan Cloutier was shaky in net, giving up five goals on 12 shots before being pulled in favor of Mathieu Garon, who allowed one score in eight chances.

The Stars are already 3-0 against the Kings this season after LA won six of eight meetings last season.
