(Sports Network) - The New England Patriots have signed punter Chris Hanson, who was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars this past May and had his contract terminated by New Orleans on Tuesday.

Hanson spent the past six seasons with the Jaguars, averaging 42.9 yards per punt with a 36.1-yard net average. A Pro Bowl selection in 2002, he signed with the Saints a few days after his release by the Jaguars.

In four preseason games with New Orleans, Hanson averaged 40.6 yards with a 39.2-yard net average.

The Patriots also released first-year punter Danny Baugher, who spent most of last season on the team's practice squad.
