SUNLAND PARK, N.M. —

A high-speed chase ended when a man crashed into a house and trailer and was talked down from the roof by deputies, officials said.

The incident happened early Thursday morning when a Dona Ana County sheriff's deputy spotted Erick Vasquez driving on the wrong side of McNutt Road. Vasquez, 24, refused to stop and led the deputy on a high-speed pursuit in excess of 110 mph, deputies said.

The chase came to a stop when Vasquez crashed his car into a house and trailer near the intersection of McNutt and County Club roads. The crash caused substantial damage to both residences, and the residents were inside their homes asleep at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported.

Deputies said Vasquez attempted to flee by running onto the roof of one of the damaged homes, but they were able to talk him down from the roof.

Vasquez was charged with aggravated drunken driving, criminal damage to property, resisting or obstructing arrest, driving on a suspended license and failure to provide insurance. He was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $5,000 surety bond.

Vasquez was traveling with a passenger who was taken to an El Paso hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
