Wrong-way driver on I-10 arrested after crashing into 18-wheeler

El Paso County Sheriff's Office

EL PASO, Texas —

A drunken driving suspect who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 10 was arrested.

At about 9:45 p.m. Thursday, El Paso County Sheriff's deputies arrested Rascon Villegas, 51, of Odessa, for driving the wrong way and crashing into an 18-wheeler.

The happened at mile marker 46, near Fabens, deputies said.

Sheriff's deputies said Villegas was driving eastbound in a brown 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, against westbound traffic along the interstate.

The driver of the 18-wheeler tried to swerve out of Villegas' way, but the Blazer collided with the right rear tires of its truck.

Sheriff's deputies said that Villegas was the only occupant of the Blazer and was not injured.

Villegas was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of driving under the suspicion of alcohol and driving while intoxicated with an open container.

His bonds totaled $600.
