It's Christmas Day, and while most are opening presents, eating, and watching the Cowboys play, those at 911 dispatch are hard at work.
"Emergencies don't stop for holidays, so on the holidays you have a dedicated crew here today that has put aside their personal holiday to do their job," said Dorothy "Dee Dee" Chambers, who works at the 911 call center.
Chambers said just because it is a holiday, doesn't mean it won't get busy.
"People are moving around trying to get to see different families, and meet with their friends, so you have the potential of things going wrong, motor vehicle accidents, you have the potential of house fires, and you know people get sick, it's a holiday but people get sick," Chambers told KFOX.
Dispatchers are not the only ones working on Monday. When you call 911, they send someone out to help you.
"You have your police, you have your fire, you have your emergency services who are here all the time," said Chambers.
Jorge Arroniz was that person you would meet in an emergency. A fire fighter for three decades, he now works the phones at dispatch, and has worked on Christmas more times then he can remember.
"You get used to it, at first it was hard, but seeing that you were with other companions doing the same thing, it got to be worthwhile," said Arroniz.
He said working Christmas is filled with mixed emotions.
"It always feels good to do something over and above what others are doing, so in that respect its a good feeling, although you do miss being with your family," Arroniz told KFOX.
So this Christmas, Arroniz says that people should be grateful for the ones they have, and remember the ones who are there for the public when it needs them.
"Merry Christmas to all, and be safe, stay safe," said Arroniz.
